Tips, Tricks & Benefits of Companion Planting

Lauren Martin

February 8, 2024

Program

Container Planting in gardening and agriculture is a form of polyculture; the practice of simultaneously cultivating or growing two or more compatible plants in a single area, which is done for any number reasons, including pest control, pollination, providing habitat for beneficial insects, maximizing space, and to otherwise increase crop productivity. Container Planting offers another benefit too - some plants deter wildlife from nibbling in your garden.

Speaker

Lauren Martin, is a University of Texas graduate, a 7th generation Texan and has been a Master Gardener since 2006.  Raised by home gardeners; her father and grandmother, Lauren’s interest heightened when she became a Master Gardener.  She became curious about soil, nutrition, insects, chemical versus natural (organic) and she had an interest in making everything prettier.  This led her to hone her skill in Companion Gardening.

Lauren has been a contributor to Fort Bend Herald newspaper’s weekly article called the Laid-back Gardener” since 2022.   She resides in Richmond with her husband of 35 years.  Their children live in Texas, Colorado and Mexico.
